One of my favorite wedding details to see is a surprising one. Whether that means bold, yellow socks on the groomsmen, a totally out-there ice sculpture in the reception area, industrial lighting, or something special and sweet. Gone are the days when wedding cakes were all meant to be many-tiered and bright white. From “naked” to ombre, the new cakes are all about personality — yours!
I had the pleasure of interviewing events director Jordan Slocum at Baked NYC, a trendy go-to for Brooklyn and Manhattan couples. He shared that among their top sellers are a take on Funfetti, a cupcake table with surprising flavors, and other quirky choices. His favorite from last wedding season? A fall-themed wedding cake featuring a bird motif and real twigs. Here are some photos of Baked’s more popular designs. Which one is your favorite? What did your cake look (and taste!) like?
